To Ric & Betsy - Mark & I were so sorry to see your beautiful horse Eight Bells fall. It will be a fitting tribute to hear the eight bells ring for Eight Belles. All the Best, Lorraine & Mark DeMichele; Camden, ME
In honor of my sister, Stephanie, who died in 1996. She was taking riding lessons and enjoyed going to horse shows and races. Do this for Eight Belles - a great horse. - D. Keller; Locust Grove, VA
I watched Eight Belles run in the Derby and sat in sadness upon hearing that she had broken down. I am proud to sign such a petition that will serve her memory and make the great sport of horse racing safer for our future athletes. - L. Leonard; West Covina, CA
She deserves this last honor. And In my opinion, it might be a nice gesture to honor every racehorse that ever broke down in or after the Derby, in both past and future. They deserve it, they ran their harts out. - I. Koster; Terneuzen, Netherlands
There's something profound and humbling about seeing this magnificent animal pour her life into crossing that finish line. We humans have to sort out the politics, the ethics, the economics, scrutinize every element for possible wrongdoing, live for awhile with the image of this incredible work of nature on her knees those last fleeting moments and wonder what, if anything we can - or ought - to do. I wish I knew. - C. Sullivan; Medford, OR
I lost a horse due to laminitis...it is a slow death. They did the right thing. I think maybe these race horses are started way too young...they are broke early and are in training before their bones have enough time to grow and mature and with such extensive workouts, the bones never grow properly. Maybe they shouldn't start them in racing until age 3 to give them one more year of growth. - K. Hardin-Baker; Ekron, KY
I watched you race up close at Oaklawn, I was proud of the heart and determination you showed and your love for what it is that you do. You will be missed Eight Belles, you may go down as the greatest Filly to ever run at Oaklawn Park. - W. D. White; Little Rock, AR
Run on beautiful, your free now, you can run with the best...Barbaro and Ruffian! Ringing eight bells is the least we can do to pay tribute to her. Remember... "Champions Live Forever!" - A. Swenson; Two Harbors, MN
Eight Belles was truly a champion and a winner. May her memory live on. - D. Thomas; Rockingham, NC
Through your life and death you have touched so many and changed us. - R. Gorby; Houston, TX
